Micro-mobility in the Wedge

Biking and rolling has been made even more convenient in the Wedge (what else is new?)

Unlike some neighborhoods, one mustn’t look to far (or wide) for a place to lock up your bike or scooter in the Wedge, with bike parking racks installed on every other stop sign at neighborhood intersections. To most riders, this beneficial quirk is well known, however, the reason for the racks – less so.

The rack placements are part of a pilot program instituted by the City of Minneapolis’ Public Works Traffic and Parking Services Division. Why the Wedge as the site for the pilot? Well according to data from the City of Minneapolis, Lowry Hill East sees some of the highest scooter and e-bike ridership numbers in the city; with 276,516 trips taking place in the neighborhood between January 1 and May 29 of 2026 (thats roughly 4% of all trips taken in the city). Although the racks are partially meant to make complying with lock-up requirements attached to most e-scooter and e-bike rentals easier, the beauty of multi-functional design means they work perfectly fine for non-electric bikes and scooters as well. With the recent completion of the grade separated bikeway on the new and improved Hennepin Ave, as well as the award winning Bryant Ave S bike lane, it has never been easier to get around by bike or scooter in the Wedge.
