A Busy Season for FoodShare
LHENA has been laboring to keep up with increasing local need for food support
The past couple of months have been difficult for neighbors facing food insecurity. From mass uncertainty surrounding the future of SNAP benefits to increasing intrusions on the Twin Cities by ICE, making many neighbors fearful to leave their homes, food aid from LHENA’s FoodShare is needed now more than ever. In addition to the our regular food distribution events throughout the month, our team of volunteers have boxed and delivered food for over 400 neighbors in need. This gargantuan effort has been fueled by countless volunteer hours and the generous support of neighbors throughout the Wedge. Although LHENA historically pauses FoodShare in the month of January, we have decided to move all leftover groceries at the end of December to neighboring food distribution programs in order to continue addressing the increasing need in and around the Wedge.
Todays media environment is one of light-speed headlines, hitting you in the heart then speeding off into the abyss, often leaving us with little time to process what is happening let alone decide how best to find a way to be a part of the solution. While many of the events happening on a global and federal scale are beyond our immediate control, there are efforts taking place at the local level that bear fruit. FoodShare is one such example.
It is easier than ever to think globally, whether we want to or not, but acting locally requires more. Let LHENA help you figure out how to get there, fill out the interest form on our homepage to find out how you can become a local actor for change.
